Imana, fifteen, has a memory unlike anyone else’s — and a secret he dares not tell: “Should I tell the elders what happened? Certainly not…” Around him the city of Jegu carries on, between diving contests with his friend Gohi and the wrestling arenas.
Elsewhere, he is being talked about. Dignitaries meet in lowered voices to weigh “the threat the Ultimes Griots represent”, and to find out whether certain powers have returned.
The tone of the series does not change: wrestling bouts that shake the arena, ceremonies, a futuristic Africa where technology has erased nothing of tradition — and pages that are genuinely funny. The preview on this page shows real plates from the book.
Read it after The Awakening of the Jeli: Dissongo is its direct sequel, not a standalone album.
