Born in Jegu into a modest family, Imana is a child who seems introverted and shy. However, we discover that he is rather talkative and a real pest with the people closest to him.
Very early on, Imana takes great pleasure in the classes of the 2nd seven-year cycle, held by moonlight. There, he meets Mbobog, the lead storyteller and instructor. Fascinated by Mbobog, Imana never misses an evening class.
During the day, he spends most of his free time alone at the tops of the trees, repeating to himself the stories learned in class. Over time, this intensive learning gives Imana an exceptional memory.
Imana’s family lives in the outcasts’ quarter, on the outskirts of the city. His father, Siad, is always silent, and Imana has never heard a single word from his mouth since he was born. As for Niamey, Imana’s sister, she is the only person who can truly make him mad. Imana doesn’t like that she is overprotective and treats him like a baby.
At the beginning of our story, Imana sets off on a journey with Mbobog, his mentor and instructor. The journey turns out to have a hidden purpose that will forever change Imana’s life and the history of the whole kingdom.
That’s all the information we can reveal for now.
Imana discovers Mbobog’s tree friend in chapter 1.
