Our Story

Guardians of authentic African stories since our founding.

“Born in 2020 from the desire to create captivating stories with heroes drawn from African culture, Ultimes Griots aims to fill the glaring lack of representation and give African children role models who look like them.”

The reality of a gentle acculturation

We asked several children a simple question: “Name 3 African superheroes you would like to be like.” It was clear they could not. Instead, they named a dozen heroes from elsewhere without a second thought: Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman…

The birth of a mission

This urgent need, combined with the desire to share Africa differently, led us to join forces with talented illustrators and a team of dynamic young people to found Ultimes Griots: to offer African children positive and authentic representations that nourish their pride and strengthen their identity.

“Creating content in which African children recognize themselves, where they can finally say: this hero looks like me, this story is mine.”

Since 2020, we have drawn on the infinite richness of our traditions, legends and values to create contemporary heroes rooted in African authenticity. Our creations turn heritage into modern adventures that inspire and educate.

“When our children see themselves represented positively in the stories they consume, they grow up with pride, confidence and a strong identity.”
