THE MAN WHO DISCOVERED AMERICA BEFORE CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

ABUBAKARI II was a 14th-century Mansa of the Mali Empire. He was the grandson of Sundiata Keita and the brother of Kankan Musa (the richest man of all time).

Abubakari II undertook a great transatlantic journey toward what was not yet “America.” Abubakari was more of a follower of African tradition. He was chafing with impatience, stuck in his prince’s robes and bound by the duties of etiquette. The prince was literally obsessed with an ambitious desire: to travel beyond the ocean. So he surrounded himself with a large number of learned and skilled people to rebuild his fleet, after a first attempt had ended in failure.

To carry out his plan, he handed his throne to his younger brother. That is how Abubakari II’s journey to the “New World” began…

The crossing was surely easier than one might imagine. Indeed, the ocean currents flowing from Africa toward South America made this kind of expedition easier. Africans were used to traveling in the desert and navigating by the stars, a habit they would carry on at sea (a method of orientation unknown to Europeans at the time). What’s more, an African-style boat had a better chance of surviving a storm on the high seas than a large caravel.

With this information, we now understand why, several centuries later, European explorers found Black people already present as soon as they first arrived in America.

They never told us that in their books, but we know the truth for sure

They always made us believe they were the ones who brought us civilization, when in fact it was here with us that they came to take and learn all these things.
Take the Manding charter, for example.
