The purpose of this trip was to draw on our cultures to create the imagination that brings all of Africa together. That is the mission Ultimes Griots set itself in Mali. For the rest, follow us…

The sites we visited

The Bamako Museum

The prehistoric park

Kanganba

The National Institute of Arts of Bamako

Koulikoro – The tomb of Sumanguru Kante

Mount Keme Bourama – statue of the legendary half-brother of Samori – tomb of some sofa warriors

The library of the French cultural center

The Nianakulu hills are the place where Sumanguru Kante was last seen.

In-person meetings

Ousmane Diarra, writer and librarian at the French cultural center. This great writer, poet, novelist and speaker was won over by the Ultimes Griots project. Collaborations are in the works. Stay tuned for what comes next. The man is passionate about African culture and hosts “story hour” at the French cultural center — a space for sharing African tales.

Fans of Ultimes Griots in Mali (Momo Oularé and Simi Jérôme) were also there. We were given a warm welcome in Bamako. Jérôme, a man with a big heart, even offered to put us up. Unfortunately 😩, we had already booked and paid for our accommodation. Thank you all the same, Jérôme!

With Dembélé, Mahamane and Moussa, we talked on the phone. Meeting in person wasn’t possible because of overlapping schedules. But next visit will surely be the one!

The artist Boulby and his manager Aly Traoré. After we presented the Ultimes Griots project, the artist made available the soundtracks of his hit song “Djeliya”. Our videos will tell you more. A big thank you to the artist and his team!

Finally, a big thank you to Alimatou Traoré, who coordinated our travel. Without her, our stay would not have been so well organized. The Dibi (grilled meat) was stratospheric 😄👍!!!!

In total, we spent 04 intense days with our brothers and sisters in Mali. But the time was not enough. It would take a whole lifetime to grasp the full cultural depth of Mali.

We will be back 🙂 God willing.
