A messenger between humans and the deities, he is an essential — and often misunderstood — figure of the pantheon.

The guardian of the crossroads

In Yoruba cosmology, Eshu stands where paths meet, at doors and thresholds. He opens and closes the ways, links the worlds and carries messages between humans and the orishas. Nothing can begin without him: in many ceremonies, Eshu is the first to be honored.

The messenger and mediator

Eshu is the great communicator: he carries prayers, watches over exchanges and recalls the importance of reciprocity.
